The meaning of Christmas

Just a week before Christmas I had a surprise visitor. I had just finished the household chores for the night and was preparing to go to bed, when I heard a noise in the front of the house. I opened the door to the front room, and to my surprise, Santa himself stepped out from behind the Christmas tree. He placed his finger over his mouth so I would not cry out.

"What are you doing?" I started to ask him. The words choked in my throat, as I saw he had tears in his eyes. His usual jolly manner was gone. Gone was the eager boisterous soul we all know. He then answered me with a simple statement: "TEACH THE CHILDREN!"

I was puzzled: "What did he mean?" He anticipated myquestion, and with one quick movement brought forth a miniature toy bag from behind the tree.

As I stood there bewildered, Santa said, "Teach the children! Teach them the old meaning of Christmas, the meaning that today's Christmas has forgotten!" Santa then reached in his bag and pulled out a small fir tree and placed it on the mantle.

"Teach the children that the pure green color of the stately fir tree remains green all year round, depicting the everlasting hope of mankind. All the needles point heavenward, making it a symbol of man's thoughts turning toward heaven."

He again reached into his bag and pulled out a brilliant star: "Teach the children that the star wasthe heavenly sign of promises long ago. God promised aSavior for the world, and the star was the sign of fulfillment of that promise."

He then reached into the bag and pulled out a candle: "Teach the children that the candle symbolizes Christ, the light of the world, and when we see this great light we are reminded of He who displaces the darkness."

Once again he reached into his bag and then removed a wreath and placed it on the tree: "Teach the children that the wreath symbolizes the eternal nature of love, and the love that the Lord has for us is never ending."

He then pulled out from his bag an ornament of himself--Santa Claus: "Teach the children that Santa Claus symbolizes the generosity and good will we feel during the month of December."

He reached in again and pulled out a holly leaf: "Teach the children that the holly plant represents immortality. It represents the crown of thorns worn by our Savior. The red holly berries represent blood shed by Him."

Next he pulled out a gift from the bag: "Teach the children that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift. Teach the children that the wise men bowed before the holy babe and presented Him with gold, frankincense, and myrrh. We should give gifts inthe same spirit as the wise men."

Santa then reached in his bag and pulled out a candy cane and hung it on the tree: "Teach the children that the candy cane represents the shepherd's crook. The crook on the shepherd's staff helps bring back strayed sheep from the flock. The candy cane is the symbol that we are our brother's keeper."

He reached in again and pulled out an angel: "Teach the children that it was the angels who heralded inthe glorious news of the Savior's birth. The angels sang 'Glory to God in the highest, on earth, peace and good will.'"

Suddenly I heard a soft twinkling sound, and from his bag he pulled out a bell: "Teach the children that as the lost sheep are found by the sound of a bell, it should bring people to the fold. The bell symbolizes guidance and return."

Santa looked at the tree and was pleased. He looked back at me and I saw the twinkle was back in his eyes.

He said, "Remember, teach the children the true meaning of Christmas, and not to put me in the center, for I am but a humble servant of the One who is, and I bow down and worship Him, our Lord, our God."

Beautiful quotes

Don't compare yourself with anyone in this world.
If you compare, you are insulting yourself.

No one will manufacture a lock without a key.
Similarly God won't give problems without solutions.

Life laughs at you when you are unhappy...
Life smiles at you when you are happy...
Life salutes you when you make others happy.

Easy is to judge the mistake of others.
Difficult is to recognise our own mistakes.

It is easier to protect your feet with slippers than to cover the earth with carpet.

No one can go back and change a bad beginning;
But anyone can start now and create a successful ending.

If a problem can be solved, no need to worry about it.
If a problem cannot be solved what is the use of worrying?

If you miss an opportunity don't fill the eyes with tears.
It will hide another better opportunity in front of you.

'Changing the Face' can change nothing.
But 'Facing the Change' can change everything.

Don't complain about others;
Change yourself if you want peace.

Mistakes are painful when they happen.
But years later collection of mistakes is called experience, which leads to success.
Be bold when you loose and be calm when you win.

Heated gold becomes ornament.
Beaten copper becomes wires.
Depleted stone becomes statue.
So the more pain you get in life you become more valuable.

Every successful person has a painful story.
Every painful story has a successful ending.
Accept the pain and get ready for success.

Life is a GIFT

Today before you say an unkind word - Think of someone who can't speak.

Before you complain about the taste of your food - Think of someone who has nothing to eat.

Before you complain about your husband or wife - Think of someone who's crying out to GOD for a companion.

Today before you complain about life - Think of someone who died too early on this earth.

Before you complain about your children - Think of someone who desires children but they're barren.

Before you argue about your dirty house someone didn't clean or sweep - Think of the people who are living in the streets.

Before whining about the distance you drive Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet.

And when you are tired and complain about your job - Think of the unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had your job.

But before you think of pointing the finger or condemning another - Remember that not one of us is without sin.

And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down - Put a smile on your face and think: you're alive and still around.

Story to Live By

There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She told her boyfriend, 'If I could only see the world, I will marry you.'

One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend.

He asked her,'Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?' The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him.

Her boyfriend left in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying: 'Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine.'

This is how the human brain often works when our status changes. Only a very few remember what life was like before, and who was always by their side in the most painful situations.

Miracles

Miracles happen daily, if we only open our eyes, our ears, our minds and hearts to this wonderful gift of God.

When we open our eyes and see the sun rising, when someone smiles at us and we feel good, that is a miracle.

When in the midst of troubles we can still laugh, when we can still love in the midst of strife and division, when we can still trust when everyone seems to distrust each other...these are the big and little miracles that surround us daily.

From now on...

1. From now on, every time anyone asks you how you are, the out loud answer is always and forever a very, very positive positive! [Great! Terrific! Fantastic!] No matter how you really feel! It doesn't matter, you are trying to change you!

2. From now on, you commit to taking full and total responsibility for your circumstances, your results and how you feel! It will always be your responsibility and that of your brain cells and no one else's!

3. From now on, you will always learn new things everyday!

4. From now on, you will stop yourself from completing any and every negative thought or words, and turn them into a positive, before you go on to anything else!

5. From now on, you will always everyday do something new, strange, crazy, silly, out of the box, embarassing, or that is otherwise 'not like you'.

6. From now on, you will always, set a goal by putting it down in writing.

7. From now on, you will willingly and eagerly fail at something important everyday - and learn from it!

8. From now on, you will everyday of your life, tell at least two people that you love them. (one should always be you, even if you don't believe it yet!)

9. From now on, you will everyday of your life, do an exercise regimen for your brain or your body (preferably both!)

10. From now on, you will stop and look to see what everyone else is doing, and then choose to probably do the opposite!

Have a nice day =)

Be warm and tender, thoughtful and affectionate.

Rare is true love, true friendship is still rarer.

We pardon as long as we love.

Troubles are like washing machine,
They twist, turn and knock us around,
but in the end we come out brighter than before!

Past is Experience,
Present is Experiment,
Future is Expectation.
Use your Experience in your Experiment to achieve your Expectations!

Reflecting on old age

Old Age, I decided, is a gift.

I am now, probably for the first time in my life, the person I have always wanted to be. Oh, not my body! I sometime despair over my body, the wrinkles, the baggy eyes, and the sagging butt. And often I am taken aback by that old person that lives in my mirror (who looks like my mother!), but I don't agonize over those things for long.

I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly. As I've aged, I've become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend. I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avante garde on my patio. I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant.

I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.

Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4AM and sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60 & 70's, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love... I will.

I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set.

They, too, will get old. I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things.

Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.

I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.

As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the right to be wrong.

So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day (if I feel like it).

Carrots, Eggs & Coffee

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, 'Tell me what you see.'

'Carrots, eggs, and coffee,' she replied. Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg. Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, 'What does it mean, mother?'

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

'Which are you?' she asked her daughter. 'When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you acarrot, an egg or a coffee bean?'

Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but aftera death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling when everyone around you is crying.

The 'be' attitudes

Be understanding to your percevied enemies.

Be loyal to your friends.

Be strong enough to face the world each day.

Be weak enough to know you cannot do everything alone.

Be generous to those who need your help.

Be frugal with that you need yourself.

Be wise enough to know that you do not know everything.

Be foolish enough to believe in miracles.

Be willing to share your joys.

Be willing to share the sorrow of others.

Be a leader when you see a path others have missed.

Be a follower when you are shrouded by the mists of uncertainty.

Be first to congratulate an opponent who succeeds.

Be last to criticize a colleague who fails.

Be sure where you next step will fall, so that you will not tumble.

Be sure of your final destination, in case you are going the wrong way.

Be loving to those who love you.

Be loving to those who do not love you; they may change.

Above all, be yourself.

Shake it off and take a step up!

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbours to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realised what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quited down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that his his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbours continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

Moral: Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.
2. Free your mind from worries - most never happenes.
3. Live simply and appreciate what you have.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less from people but more from God.

Good morning

Good morning, I'm your angel;
Let's start this brand new day!

I'll add a bit of heaven,
to help you on your way.

I'll help you open sleepy eyes,
enable you to see,
sunshine-jewels in the morning light,
so priceless, yet they're free.

I'll cause the morning birds to sing,
and then I'll take their songs,
and place them all into your heart...
to cheer you all day long.

I'll help you find your lost car keys,
the work that you brought home...
and as you're walking out of the door,
you won't go alone.

For I'll be right beside you...
breathe deep, you'll feel me here.

I'm that invigorating tingle,
held in the morning air.

As you go about your day,
Please know that this is true...
There's nothing you can't overcome,
For I'll be there with you.

xxxxxxxxx

朋友,是你高兴时想跟他分享的;
朋友,是你不高兴时可以给你发脾气的;
朋友,也是在你没钱开饭时打救你的;
朋友,是你闷得发荒时可以和你一起发荒的;
朋友,会甘愿给你功课抄,跟你一同出猫一同被人罚的;
朋友,也是你买手信时,想买一份打的给他的;

忙的时候,想要休息;

穷的时候,渴望富有;

该决定的时候,担心结果不如预期;

不属于自己的,常常心存欲望;

Share your strength

Don't shy away from challenges...facing them is the only way you can improve.

Look inside for your strength, then share that strength with others.

Always maintain your sense of humour, share it with others when things get too intense.

Make the play first, then decide if it was possible.

Admit your mistakes. It shows character and inner strength.

Remember, loyalty is a two-way street.

Friends..

God made the world with a heart full of love,

Then He looked down from Heaven above.

And saw that we all need a helping hand.

Someone to share with, who'll understand,

He made speacial people to see us through

The glad times and the sad times, too;

A person on whom we can always depend,

Someone we can call a friend.

Rainbow

Rainbows would never be rainbows

If sunshine had never met rain

No one would ever need comfort

If there was no sadness and pain

But life holds both sunshine and showers

The days aren't all bright and fair

So look through the showers for the rainbows

You'll always find hope shining there

That is Friendship

Far away but always near,
I hold your relationship very clear...
Ever together but never apart...
You'll always be in my heart as my friend.

The thread asked the candle,
why you dissolve yourself when I burn.
The candle said, when those who are in my heart suffer,
I am bound to shed tears....
That is Friendship

Reasons to like a woman

You can feel her care in the form of a sister

You can feel her warmth in the form of a friend

You can feel her passion in the form of a beloved

You can feel her dedication in the form of a wife

You can feel her divinity in the form of a mother

You can feel her blessings in the form of a grandmother

Yet she is so tough too...

Her heart is so tender...

So naughty...

So charming...

So sharing...

So melodious...

She is a woman

She is life

Respect her.

Love your parents

"The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before.
The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new."

"The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president. You realise that you control your own destiny."

"I remember my mother's prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life."

"Mother love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible."

"How pleasant it is for a father to sit at his child's board. It is like an aged man reclining under the shadow of an oak which he has planted."

*如果你也正在为爱迷惘,或许下面这段话可以给你一些启示:
爱一个人,要了解,也要开解;
要道歉,也要道谢;
要认错,也要改错;
要体贴,也要体谅;
是接受,而不是忍受;
是宽容,而不是纵容;
是支持,而不是支配;
是慰问,而不是质问;
是倾诉,而不是控诉;
是难忘,而不是遗忘;
是彼此交流,而不是凡事交代;
是为对方默默祈求,而不是向对方诸多要求;
可以浪漫,但不要浪费;

The Woman

When God created woman He was working late on the 6th day. An angel came by and said, 'Why spend so much time on that one?'

And the Lord answered, 'Have you seen all the specifications I have to meet to shape her?
She must be washable, but not made of plastic, have more than 200 moving parts which all must be replaceable and she must function on all kinds of foood, she must be able to embrace several kids at the same time, give a hug that can heal anything from a bruised knee to a broken heart and she must do all this with only two hands.'

The angel was impressed.

'Just two hands...impossible! And this is the standard model?!
Too much work for one day...wait until tomorrow and then complete her.'

'I will not,' said the Lord. 'I am so close to complete this creation, which will be the favourite of my heart.
She cures herself when sick and she can work 18 hours a day.'

The angel came nearer and touched the woman.

'But you have made her so soft, Lord.'

'She is soft,' said the Lord, 'But I have also made her strong. You can't imagine what she can endure and overcome.'

'Can she think?' the angel asked.

The Lord answered, 'Not only can she think, she can reason and negotiate.'

The angel touched the woman's cheek...

'Lord, it seems this creatioin is leaking! You have put too many burdens on her.'

'She is not leaking...it's a tear,' the Lord corrected the angel.

'What's it for?' asked the angel.

And the Lord said, 'Tears are her way of expressing grief, her doubts, her love, her loneliness, her suffering and her pride.'

This made a big impression on the angel, 'Lord, You are genius. You thought of everything. The woman is indeed marvellous!'

Indeed she is!

Woman has strengths that amaze man. She can handle trouble and carry heavy burdens.
She holds happiness, love and opinions.
She smiles when feeling like screaming.
She sings when she feels like crying, cries when she is happy and laughs when she is afraid.

She fights for what she believes in.
She stands up against injustice.
She doesn't take 'no' for an answer, when she can see a better solution.
She gives herself so her family can thrive.
She takes her friend to the doctor if she is afriad.
Her love is unconditional.

She cries when her kids are victorious.
She is happy when her friends do well.
She is glad when she hears of a birth or a wedding.
Her heart is broken when a next of kin or friend dies.
But she finds the strength to get on with life.
She knows that a kiss and a hug can heal a broken heart.

There is only one thing wrong with her
She forgets what she is worth...

Friends =D

Friends give us the courage to lift the blinds on our hearts, to open up and show what we generally keep hidden from the rest of the world.

Friends gives us security in knowing our secrets will be protected and will not be broadcast from the rooftops.

Friends put a smile on our faces and a spring in our step.

Friends make each day a new beginning filled with wonder and joy.

Friends put laughter in our hearts after we have been overwhelmed by grief.

Friends give us the inspiration to reach for our dreams.

Friends bring us back to earth if we get a little too full by ourselves.

Before you...

Before you speak...listen

Before you write...think

Before you spend...earn

Before you criticise...wait

Before you pray...forgive

Before you quit...try

One

One song can spark a moment,
One flower can wake the dream.
One tree can start a forest,
One bird can herald spring.

One smile begins a friendship,
One handclasp lifts a soul.
One star can guide a ship at sea,
One word can frame the goal.

One vote can change a nation,
One sunbeam lights a room.
One candle wipes out darkness,
One laugh will conquer gloom.

One step must start each journey,
One word must start each prayer.
One hope will raise our spirits,
One touch can show you care.

One voice can speak with wisdom,
One heart can know what's true.
One life can make a difference,
You see, it's up to you!

5 great lessons

First Important Lesson - Cleaning Lady
During my second month of college, our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions until I read the last one: 'What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?' Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name?

I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade. 'Absolutely,' said the professor. 'In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say 'hello.'

I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy.

Second Important Lesson - Pickup in the Rain
One night, at11:30 p.m., an older African American woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway trying to endure a lashing rainstorm. Her car had broken down and she desperately needed a ride. Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car. A young white man stopped to help her, generally unheard of in those conflict-filled 1960s. The man took her to safety, helped her get assistance and put her into a taxicab. She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his address and thanked him.

Seven days went by and a knock came on the man's door. To his surprise, a giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A special note was attached...It read: 'Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway the other night. The rain drenched not only my clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along. Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying husband's bedside just before he passed away... God bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving others.' Sincerely, Mrs. Nat King Cole.

Third Important Lesson - Always remember those who serve
In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him. 'How much is an ice cream sundae?' he asked. 'Fifty cents,' replied the waitress. The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied the coins in it. 'Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?' he inquired. By now more people were waiting for a table and the waitress was growing impatient. 'Thirty-five cents,' she brusquely replied the little boy again counted his coins. 'I'll have the plain ice cream,' he said. The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and left.

When the waitress came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two nickels and five pennies. You see, he couldn't have the sundae, because he had to have enough left to leave her a tip.

Fourth Important Lesson. - The obstacle in Our Path
In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. After the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the King indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many of us never understand!

Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.

Fifth Important Lesson - Giving when it Counts...
Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who was suffering from a rare and serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness.

The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the little boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying, 'Yes I'll do it, if it will save her.'

As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheeks. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, 'Will I start to die right away?' Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood in order to save her.

Cracked pot

An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole, which she carried across her neck.

One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.

At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water.

Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do.

After 2 years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream.

"I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house."

The old woman smiled, "Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and evry day while we walk back, you water them.

For two years I have been able to pick these beatufiul flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house."

Each of us has our own unique flaw...
But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding.
You've just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them.

To all my crackpot friends, have a great day and remember to smell the flowers, on your side of the path.

Always remember

Always remember to forget
The things that made you sad.

But never forget to remember
The things that made you glad.

Always remember to forget
The friends that proved untrue.

But don't forget to remember
Those that have stuck by you.

Always remember to forget
The troubles that have passed away.

But never forget to remember
The blessings that come each day.

Coffee and Cups

The happiest people in the world are not those who have no problems, but those who learn to live with things that are less than perfect.

A group of graduates, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life. Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee, the professor said, 'If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the simple and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases, it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups... Then you began eyeing each other's cups.'

Now consider this:
'Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of Life we live. Sometimes, by concentrating on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee. Enjoy your coffee!'

The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.
1. Live simply.
2. Love generously.
3. Care deeply.
4. Speak kindly.

You are the miracle, my friend;
Your life either shines a light OR casts a shadow!

Shine a light & Enjoy the Coffee!!!

When you are down...

Sometimes the pressure is so high,
The hours are so long,
The problems so big,
The whole world seems to be against you...
Do you know what you should do?

Act silly!

Don't listen to the ones who make you feel depressed!

Ignore your problems!

Do what you enjoy!

Make time for the things you love!

Leave your fears aside and...be a bit ridiculous!

Fight for perfection...but not to exhaustion!

And the most important: Life doesn't end today, and doesn't start tomorrow.

Don't stop! Each minute of stress is wasted time...

This is why I wish you: A little madness and a little imagination, so you can see life better than usual!

And don't forget: Smile! In life everything is nicer when you cheer up.

Poem about morning

Morning is the best of
All times in the garden.
The sun is not yet hot.
Sweet vapors rise from the earth.
Night dew clings to the soiland
Makes plants glisten.
Birds call to one another.
Bees are already at work.

I feared....until...

I feared being alone...until I learned to like myself.
I feared failure...until I realised that I only fail when I don't try.
I feared success...until I realised that I had to try in order to be happy with myself.

I feared people's opinions...until I learned that people would have opinions about me anyway.
I feared rejection...until I learned to have faith in myself.
I feared pain...until I learned that it's necessary for growth.

I feared the truth...until I saw the ugliness in lies.
I feared life...until I experienced its beauty.
I feared death...until I realised that it's not an end, but a beginning.

I feared my destiny...until I realised that I had the power to change my life.
I feared hate...until I saw that it was nothing more than ignorance.
I feared love...until it touched my heart, making the darkness fade into endless sunny days.

I feared ridicule...until I learned how to laugh at myself.
I feared growing old...until I realised that I gained wisdom everyday.
I feared the future...until I realised that life just kept getting better.
I feared the past...until I realised that it could no longer hurt me.

I feared the dark...until I saw the beauty of the starlight.
I feared the light...until I learned that the truth would give me strength.
I feared change...until I saw that even the most beautiful butterfly had to undergo a metamorphosis before it could fly.

A reason, a season or a lifetime

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person.

Someone is in your life for a reason, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are.
They are there for the reason you need them to be.
Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.
Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away.
Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.
What we must realise is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done.
The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Some people come into your life for a season, because your turn has come to share, grow or learn.
They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it, it is real. But only for a season.

Lifetime relationships teach you lifetime lessons,
things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation.
Your job is to accept the lesson,
love the person and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.

It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

Thank you for being a part of my life,
whether you were a reason, a season or a lifetime.

Friends, are everything

It's easy to take our friendship and each other for granted -
to forget what life would be like,
without each other to laugh with, to be with, to care about...
But whenever I slow down and give our friendship a thought,
I still feel that...it's one of the finest relationships I have and I still see the same sentiment reflecting in you!

You're my friend for life!

-----------------------------------

The Book defines a Friend as 'the one whom we know well and are fond of, intimate associate, close acquaintance, a supporter or sympathizer, someone who is not an enemy'...

People define a Friend as the one who stays faithful in times of dire need...
But I feel that friend is the one person who comes along, changes your existing into lining, becomes your everything and stays so far.

-----------------------------------

Good friends like you...
Make this world a brighter and a happier place.
You are really a pleasure to know and your timely presence and appreciation, are always admired.
Have a joyous life.

-----------------------------------

The sweetest of joys,
The loveliest of flowers,
The melodiest of songs,
can't compare to the beauty and specialness of our friendship...

-----------------------------------

It means a lot to have you as a friend:

You have become a part of my life.
I feel so comfortable with you
and the times we share are delightful.
And I know, no matter what,
I can always count on you...

How to reduce stress

An angel says, 'Never borrow from the future. If you worry about what may happen tomorrow and it doesn't happen, you have worried in vain. Even if it does happen, you have to worry twice.'

1. Pray or meditate.

2. Go to bed on time.

3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.

4. Say No to projects that won't fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.

5. Delegate tasks to capable others.

6. Simplify and unclutter your life.

7. Less is more. Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.

8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.

9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together.

10. Take one day at a time.

11. Separate worries from concerns. If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety. If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it.

12. Live within your budget; don't use credit cards for ordinary purchases.

13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.

14. K.M.S (Keep Mouth Shut). This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.

15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.

16. Carry a Good Book with you to read while waiting in line.

17. Get enough rest.

18. Eat right.

19. Get organized so everything has its place.

20. Listen to a tape while driving can help improve your quality of life.

21. Write down thoughts and inspirations.

22. Every day, find time to be alone.

23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip small problems in the bud. Don't wait until it's time to go to bed to try and pray.

24. Make friends with people you are comfortable with.

25. Keep a folder of favourtie scriptures or songs on hand.

26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good 'Thank You God'.

27. Laugh.

28. Laugh some more!

29. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.

30. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).

31. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).

32. Sit on your ego.

33. Talk less, listen more.

34. Slow down.

35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe.

36. Every night before bed, think of one thing you're grateful for that you've never been grateful for before. God has a way of turning things around for you.

"If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31)

If you want happiness

If you want happiness for an hour,
take a nap.

If you want happiness for a day,
go for a picnic.

If you want happiness for a week,
go on a vacation.

If you want happiness for a month,
get married.

If you want happiness for a year,
inherit wealth.

If you want happiness for a lifetime,
learn to love what you do.

God gave me everything I needed

When I asked God for Strength
He gave me difficult situations to face

When I asked God for Brain and Brawn
He gave me puzzles in life to solve

When I asked God for Happiness
He showed me some unhappy people

When I asked God for Wealth
He showed me how to work hard

When I asked God for Favors
He showed me opportunities to work hard

When I asked God for Peace
He showed me how to help others

God gave me nothing I wanted
He gave me everything I needed

Live today

Don't hurt anyone
It only takes a few seconds to hurt people you love, and it can take years to heal.

Live today!
There are two eternities that can really break you down - Yesterday and Tomorrow. One is gone and the other doesn't exist, so live today.

Value
What is the most valuable is not what you have in my life but who you have in your life.

Money
Money can buy everything but happiness...

Marriage
Do not marry a person that you know that you can live with; only marry someone that you cannot live without.

Trust
It takes years to build trust, and a few seconds to destroy it.

Quotes

Honesty is the cornerstone of all success, without which confidence and ability to perform shall cease to exist. - Mary Kay Ash

Faith consists in believing when it is beyond the power of reason in believe. It is not enough that a thing be positive for it to be believed. - Voltaire

Dreams are renewable. No matter what our age or condition, there are still untrapped possibilities within us and new beauty waiting to be born. - Dr. Dale Turner

It is important that you strive for humility, but not humiliation, for a cool, level-headed confidence, not a stiff, delusional arrogance. - Michael Johnson

People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within. - Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

If we are to have real peace, we must begin with the children. - Mahatma Gandhi

Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from. - Al Franken

Failure is not a single, castaclysmic event. You don't fail overnight. Instead, failure is a few erros in judgement, repeated everyday. - Jim Rohn

Your family and your love must be cultivated like a garden. Time, effort, and imagination must be summoned constantly to keep any relationship flourishing and growing. - Kim Rohn

Let fortune to her worst, whatever she makes us lose, so long as she never makes us lose our honesty and our independence. - Alexander Pope

The purpose of life is not to be happy, but to matter, to be productive, to be useful, to have it make some difference that you have lived at all. - Les Rosten

Beautiful words

Believe not only in yourself,
but believe in your friends as well for it is in the eyes of your friends that you discover yourself.

If somebody leaves you with lots of tears...save them safely.
Later when a person comes to you with happiness, compare the saved tears and present happiness.
If happiness overcomes your tears...the I am sure you have found your best friend.

Love is post paid, one month you don't pay, connection will be cut.
But friendship is life time prepaid whether you pay or not,
incoming is free for lifetime.

Birds that live in a lake will fly away when the lake dries up.
But the lotus in the same lake dies with the lake.
That's the commitment in relationships...

Friendship is like standing on wet cement...
The longer you stay, the harder it is to leave and
you can never go without leaving footprints behind.

A word to say, a word to hear, even in your absence I feel you near...
Our relationship is strong, hope it lasts long...
We'll remain friends, till our hearts go on...

Being visible isn't always a requirement for being close,
it just takes some thoughtful gesture and concern to capture the heart of a friend.

Friendship means to feel someone in every heartbeat,
to find someone in every thought,
to see someone with closed eyes,
and to miss someone without reason.

Great relationships are not necessarily about finding similarities...
It is more about respecting differences.

Forgetting you is hard to do,
Forgetting me is up to you!
Forget me not, forget me never,
And you'll have a loveable friend forever!

Friends never make assumptions about you.
They never expect a reason to go out with you.
In fact friends only expect you to be you!

One should try to make new friends everyday,
without the company of friends life is barren, and has no meaning.
One should learn the art of making friends,
because at the end of life we remember our friends.

Friendship is like a clap - it makes sound great when we clap with two hands,
And friendship is strong when two persons can understand each other,
and that two persons are you and me =)

True friendship is like sound health,
the value of it is seldom known until it be lost.

Believe not only in yourself, but believe in your friends as well,
for it is in the eyes of your friends that you discover yourself.

Childhood

The things which the child loves remain in the domain of the heart until old age. The most beautiful thing in life is that our souls remain over the places where we once enjoyed ourselves.

There is always one moment in childhodd when the door opens and lets the future in.

If you carry your childhood with you, you never become older.

It is never too late to have a happy childhood.

I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father's protection.

The essence of childhood, of course, is play, which my friends and I did endlessly on streets that we reluctantly shared with traffic.

Childhood is that wonderful time of life when all you need to do to lose weight is take a bath.

Creativity is not merely the innocent spontaniety of our youth and childhood, it must also be married to the passion of the adult human being, which is a passion to live beyond one's death.

Our whole life is but a greater and longer childhood.

This highlight of my childhood was making my brother laugh so hard that food came out of his nose.

Just be...

Just be strong enough to face the world each day,
be weak enough to know you cannot do everything.

Just be wise enough to know you do not know everything,
be foolish enough to believe in miracles.

Just be a leader when you see a path others have missed,
be a follower when you are shrouded in the midst of uncertainty.

Just be the first to congratulate an opponent who succeeds,
be the last to criticize a colleague who fails.

Things are not always what they seem

Two travelling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family. The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the mansion's guestroom. Instead the angels were given a small space in the cold basement. As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it. The younger angel asked why, the older angel replied, 'Things aren't always what they seem.'

The next night the pair came to rest at a house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife. After sharing what little food they had, the couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest. When the sun came up the next morning, the angels found the farmer and his wife in tears. Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole income, lay dead in the field. The younger angel was infuriated and asked the older angel, 'How could you have let this happen? The first man had everything, yet you helped him. The second family had little but was willing to share everything, and you let the cow die.'

'Things aren't always what they seem,' the older angel replied. 'When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the wall. Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it.'

'Then last night as we slept in the farmer's bed, the angel of death came for his wife. I gave him the cow instead. Things aren't always what they seem.'

Sometimes that is exactly what happens when things don't turn out the way they should. If you have faith, you just need to trust that every outcome is always to your advantage. You might not know it until some time later...

Some people come into our lives and quickly go...
Some people become friends and stay a while, leaving beautiful footprints on our hearts...
And we are never quite the same because we have made a good friend!

Seven ups

1. Wake up!

Decide to have a good day.

2. Dress up!

The best way to dress up is to put on a smile.
A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.

3. Shut up!

Say nice things and learn to listen.
With two ears and one mouth, it's meant for us to do twice as much listening as talking.
"He who guards his lips guards his soul."

4. Stand up!

...for what you believe in.
Stand for something or you will fall for anything.

5. Look up!

Keep yourself centred. Remember, you are important.

6. Reach up!

...for something higher.
Trust with all your heart, and lean unto your own understanding.

7. Lift up!

...your prayers.
"Do not worry about anything, instead pray about everything."

A positive thought:

When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift...thrown away.
Life is not a race. Take it slower. Hear the music before the song is over.

"Life may not be the party we hoped for...but while we are here we might as well dance!"

Positive thoughts

Don't be afraid to open up your eyes so you can see tomorrow.

It takes 72 muscles to frown, and only 14 to smile.

It is not how much we do, but how much love we put into doing it.

A friend is an angel who lifts us off our feet when out wings have trouble remembering how to fly.

Life is like mail, sometimes you just don't get it.

The world is like a mirror, if you face it smiling, it smiles right back.

As long as we have memories, yesterday remains,
as long as we have hope, tomorrow awaits,
as long as we have friendship, each day is never a waste.

You don't stop laughing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop laughing.

A dream is a wish, your heart makes when you're fast asleep.

When life gets you down and nothing seems to go your way, remember you always have a friend.

Don't worry, be happy =)

The moment you are in tension

You'll lose your attention

Then you are in total confusion

And you'll feel irritation

This may spoil your personal relations

Ultimately you won't get any cooperation

And get things into complications

Then you may raise caution

And you have to take medication

So why not understand the situation

And try to think about the solution

Many problems will be solved by discussion

Which will work out better in profession

Don't you think this is free suggestion

It's only for your prevention

If you understand my intention

You will never come again into this tension

I won't forget you

I would rather live one day knowing you are my buddy
Than live forever without you by my side.

Of all the friends I've ever met,
You're the one I won't forget.
And if I die
Before you do
I'll go to heaven
And wait for you
I'll give the angels
Back their wings
And risk the loss
Of everything
Just to prove
My friendship is true.

Our friendship will remain

You are my best friend through thick and thin.
When you reach for my hand you touch my heart.
You are the best friend that I can have.

You are there for me when I need you the most.
You cheer me up when I am down.
If I am about to cry you make smile.
You are my best friend and I cannot lie.

You listen to me and give me advice,
advice that comes straight from the bottom of your precious heart.
You are my best friend in the whole wide world
And I couldn't ask God for a little bit more.

We are going to grow older,
And things will change but our friendship will forever still remain.
I'll make new friends but that won't change
Because you will always be my best friend.

I'd like to mean as much to you as you mean to me.
I'd like to be some help to you as you have been to me.
I'd like to know that as we grow older our lives will change but our friendship will still remain.

You and I will never be apart
Maybe in distance
But never in heart
For our friendship is the way.

The best of friends

The best of friends,
Can change a frown,
Into a smile,
When you feel down.

The best of friends,
Will understand,
Your little trials,
And lend a hand.

The best of friends,
Will always share,
Your secret dreams,
Because they care.

The best of friends,
Worth more than gold,
Give all the love,
A heart can hold.

To my best friend

This is for you, my best friend
the one person I can tell my soul to
Who can relate to me like no other
Who I can laugh with to no extent
Who I can cry to when times are tough
Who can help me with the problems of my life.

Never have you turned your back on me
Or told me I wasn't good enough
Or let me down

I don't think you know what that means to me
You have went through so much pain
and you still have time for me
And I love you for listening even when inside you are dying
And I look up too because you are strong
and caring
and beautiful
Even though you don't think you are.

And I hope you know that I am always here
To listen to you laugh and cry
And to offer help in all the ways that I can
And I will try to be at least half the friend you are to me.

I hope you know I would not be the person I am today
Without you, my best friend.

You are always there for me...

Words escape me
at this moment
that seems like the end
yet it is only the beginning
when friendships are close
and dreams are far
you were there for me.

Tears fill me
with memories of both good and bad
some nearly forgotten
yet all dear to the heart
you were there for me.

In times of trouble
and in times of thanks
you stood by my side
and held me up.

Through your ever-patient ears
to your comforting hugs
you were there for me.

From that first day
when I saw you and knew
that you would love me for who I was
you were there for me.

And until the day
when we are old and gray
I will always know that
you are there for me.

God bless you

A kiss from the sunlight greets you a new day,
God embrace you when you pray,
Blessings from God as the day decay,
May you go through this journey by His way.

Finally, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things.

As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master,
As the eyes of the maid look to the hand of her mistress,
So our eyes look to the Lord our God,
Till He shows us mercy.

Enthusiasim

Your enthusiasm will be infectious, stimulating and attractive to others. They will love you for it. They will go for you and with you. –Norman Vincent Peale

Have you ever been so enthusiastic - so passionate - about something that the words stop and go cease to exist in your vocabulary, replaced only with continue? You feel like a volcano about to explode, so you continue until you burst forth with excitement. And, have you ever noticed that when you are turning out this energy, you inspire yourself to do more and to go in new directions? Instead of coming to an end after each accomplishment, you find yourself arriving at a new beginning, inspiring others to go with you.

Golden rules of love

Friendship often ends in love...
But love in friendship - never...

Don't marry a person you can live with,
Marry a person you cannot live without.

To love is nothing,
To be loved is something,
To love and be loved is everything.

Kindness in words creates confidence,
Kindness in thinking creates profoundness,
Kindness in giving creates love.

Love - one word that frees us of all the weight and pain in life.

Beautiful wisdom

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.

I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being. She said, "Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?"

I laughed and enthusiastically responded, "Of course you may!" and she gave me a giant squeeze.

"Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?" I asked. She jokingly replied, "I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids.."

"No, seriously," I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.

"I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!" she told me.

After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake.

We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk non-stop. I was always mesmerized listening to this "time machine" as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.

Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went.

She loved to dress up and she revelled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.

At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet.

I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor.

Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, "I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know."

As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, "We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing.

There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.

We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it!

There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up.

If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight.

Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets.

The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets.."

She concluded her speech by courageously singing "The Rose."

She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives.

At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago.

One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep.

Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.

These words have been passed along in loving memory of ROSE: REMEMBER, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY. GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL. We make a Living by what we get, We make a Life by what we give.

God promises a safe landing, not a calm passage. If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

"IN ORDER TO GROW, YOU SOMETIMES HAVE TO GO AGAINST CONVENTIONAL WISDOM"

YOU DON'T MAKE REAL PROGRESS UNLESS YOU HAVE A VISION

Two choices

Jerry is the manager of a restaurant. He is always in a good mood.

When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would always reply, "If I were any better, I would be twins!"

Many of the waiters at his restaurant quit their jobs when he changed jobs, so they could follow him around from restaurant to restaurant.

Why?

Because Jerry was a natural motivator.

If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was always there, telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerry and asked him, "I don't get it! No one can be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?"

Jerry replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, I have two choices today. I can choose to be in a good mood or I can choose to be in a bad mood. I always choose to be in a good mood.

Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be victim or I can choose to learn from it. I always choose to learn from it.

Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I always choose the positive side of life."

"But it's not always that easy," I protested.

"Yes it is," Jerry said.

"Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk every situation is a choice.

You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. It's your choice how you live your life."

Several years later, I heard that Jerry accidentally did something you are not supposed to do in the restaurant business.

He left the back door of his restaurant open, and then in the morning he was robbed by three armed men. They wanted money. While Jerry was trying to open the safe box, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination. The robbers panicked and shot him.

Luckily, Jerry was found quickly and rushed to the hospital. After 18 hours of surgery, and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets still in his body.

I saw Jerry about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, "If I were any better, I'd be twins. Want to see my scars?"

I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place.

"The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door," Jerry replied.

"Then, after they shot me, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or chould choose to die. I chose to live."

"Weren't you scared?" I asked.

Jerry continued, "The paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the Emergency Room and I saw the expression on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read 'He's a dead man.' I knew I needed to take action."

"What did you do?" I asked.

"Well, there was a big nurse shouting questions at me," said Jerry. "She asked if I was allergic to anything. 'Yes,' I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, 'Bullets!' Over their laughter, I told them, 'I am choosing to live. Please operate on me as if I am alive, not dead."

Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude.

I learned from him that everyday you have the choice to either enjoy our life or to hate it.

The only thing that is truly yours - that no one can control or take from you - is your attitude, so if you can take care of that, everything else in life becomes much easier.

Sand and Stone

This story tells about two friends that were walking through the desert.

At one point during the trip they started arguing and one of the friends hit the other in the face.

The one that had been hit was hurt, but without a further word, wrote down in the sand, 'Today my best friend hit me in the face.'

They carried on walking until they came across an oasis, where they decided to freshen up and bathe. But the one that had been hit before got caught in the mud and was about to drown, and the friend saved him.

After he had recovered, he wrote down on a stone, 'Today my best friend saved my life.'

The friend that had hit his best friend and had then saved him asked, 'After I hit you, you wrote in the sand, and now you are writing on stone. Why?'

The other friend answered, 'When someone hurts us, we should write it down in sand so that the wind can forgive us by blowing it away.

But when someone does something nice for us, we should engrave it in stone, where no wind can ever blow it away.'

Learn to write down your pain in sand and to engrave the good experience in stone.

They say it takes a minute to find someone special, an hour to appreciate them, a day to get to like and love them, but takes a lifetime to forget them.
