Who is Happy?

A crow lived in the forest and was absolutely satisfied in life. But one day he saw a swan. “This swan is so white,” he thought, “and I am so black. This swan must be the happiest bird in the world.”

He expressed his thoughts to the swan. “Actually,” the swan replied, “I was feeling that I was the happiest bird around until I saw a parrot, which has two colors. I now think the parrot is the happiest bird in creation.” The crow then approached the parrot. The parrot explained, “I lived a very happy life until I saw a peacock. I have only two colors, but the peacock has multiple colors.”

The crow then visited a peacock in the zoo and saw that hundreds of people had gathered to see him. After the people had left, the crow approached the peacock. “Dear peacock,” the crow said, “you are so beautiful. Every day thousands of people come to see you. When people see me, they immediately shoo me away. I think you are the happiest bird on the planet.”

The peacock replied, “I always thought that I was the most beautiful and happy bird on the planet. But because of my beauty, I am entrapped in this zoo. I have examined the zoo very carefully, and I have realized that the crow is the only bird not kept in a cage. So for past few days I have been thinking that if I were a crow, I could happily roam everywhere.”

That's our problem too.

We make unnecessary comparison with others and become sad. We don't value what God has given us. This all leads to the vicious cycle of unhappiness.

The Filial Son

A son took his old father to a restaurant for an evening dinner. Father being very old and weak, while eating, dropped food on his shirt and trousers.
Other diners watched him in disgust while his son was calm.

After he finished eating, his son who was not at all embarrassed, quietly took him to the wash room, wiped the food particles, removed the stains, combed his hair and fitted his spectacles firmly. When they came out, the entire restaurant was watching them in dead silence, not able to grasp how someone could embarrass themselves publicly like that.

The son settled the bill and started walking out with his father.

At that time, an old man among the diners called out to the son and asked him, "Don't you think you have left something behind?"

The son replied, "No sir, I haven't."

The old man retorted, "Yes you have! You left a lesson for every son and hope for every father."

The restaurant went silent.

The Top Five Regrets of the Dying

Bronnie Ware is an Australian nurse who spent several years working in palliative care, caring for patients in the last 12 weeks of their lives. She recorded their dying epiphanies in a blog called Inspiration and Chai, which gathered so much attention that she put her observations into a book called 'The Top Five Regrets of the Dying'.

Ware writes of the phenomenal clarity of vision that people gain at the end of their lives, and how we might learn from their wisdom. "When questioned about any regrets they had or anything they would do differently," she says, "common themes surfaced again and again."

Here are the top five regrets of the dying, as witness by Ware:

1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.

"This was the most common regret of all. When people realise that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honoured even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made. Health brings a freedom very few realise, until they no longer have it."

2. I wish I hand't worked so hard.

"This came from every male patient that I nursed. They missed their children's youth and their partner's companionship. Women also spoke of this regret, but as most were from an older generation, many of the female patients had not been breadwinners. All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work."

3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.

"Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming. Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a result."

4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.

"Often they would not truly realise the full benefits of old friends until their dying weeks and it was not always possible to track them down. Many had become so caught up with their own lives that they had let golden friendships slip by over the years. There were many deep regrets about not giving friendships the time and effort that they deserved. Everyone misses their friends when they are dying."

5. I wish I had let myself be happier.

"This is a surprisingly common one. Many did not realise until the end that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in old patterns and habits. The so-called 'comfort' of familiarity overflowed into their emotions, as well as their physical lives. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to themselves, that they were content, when deep within, they longed to laugh properly and have silliness in their life again."

The writer's wife

A famous writer was in his study room. He picked up his pen and started writing:

- Last year, I had a surgery and my gallbladder was removed. I had to stay tuck to the bed due to this surgery for a long time.

- The same year I reached the age of 60 years and had to give up my favourite job. I had spent 30 years of my life in this publishing company.

- The same year I experienced the sorrow of the death of my father.

- And in the same year my son failed in his medical exam because he had a car accident. He had to stay in bed at hospital with the cast on for several days. The destruction of the car was another loss.

At the end he wrote: Alas! It was such a bad year!

When the writer's wife entered the room, she found her husband looking sad lost in his thoughts. From behind his back she read what was written on the paper. She left the room silently and came back with another paper and placed it on the side of her husband's writing.

When the writer saw this paper, he found it was written with the following lines:

- Last year I finally got rid of my gallbladder due to which I had spent years in pain...

- I turned 60 with sound health and got retired from my job. Now I can utilise my time to write something better with more focus and peace...

- The same year my father, at the age of 95, without depending on anyone or without any critical condition met his Creator...

- The same year, God blessed my son with a new life. My car was destroyed but my son stayed alive without getting any disability...

And at the end she wrote: This year was an immense blessing of God and it passed well!

The writer was indeed happy and amazed at such beautiful and encouraging interpretation of the happenings in his life in that year!

Moral: In daily lives we must see that it is not happiness that makes us grateful but gratefulness that makes us happy.

Love, Wealth & Success

A woman came out of her house and saw three old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not know them.
She said, "I don't think I know you, but I'm sure you must be hungry. Please come in and eat something."
"Is the man of the house home?" They asked.
"No", she replied. "My husband has been out."
"So we will not go", they replied.
When her husband came home that evening, she told him what happened. "Go tell them I am home and invite them in now!"
The woman went out and invited the old men to go inside.
"We do not go into a house together," they replied.
"Why so?" she wanted to know.
One of the old men explained, "His name is Wealth," he said, pointing to one of his friends, and pointing to another friend, "He is Success, and I am Love."
Then he added, "Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you want to invite into the house."
The woman went in and told her husband what was said.
Her husband was overjoyed. "How nice !!" he said. "Then let us invite Wealth. Let him come and fill our home with wealth!"
His wife disagreed. "My dear, why do not we invite Success?"
Incidentally, their daughter was listening from the other corner of the house. She jumped in with her own suggestion, "Would not it be better to invite Love? Our home will certainly imbued with Love!"
"Let us follow the advice of our daughter," said the husband to his wife. "Go out and invite Love to be our guest."
The woman went out and asked the three old men, "Which one of you is Love? Please come in and be our guest."
Love got up and started walking toward the house. The two other men also got up and followed him.
Surprised, the lady asked Wealth and Success, "I only invited Love, why are you coming in?"
They all replied, "If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other would have stayed out, but since you invited Love, wherever He goes, we go with him."

Kadang-kadang yang sukarela membantu kita, bukan kerana mereka berhutang apa-apa tapi sebab mereka ihat kita sebagai seorang sahabat...

Kadang-kadang sahabat yang selalu SMS anda, bukan kerana mereka tak ada benda lain nak buat tapi sebab mereka ingat pada anda...

Satu hari, kita semua akan terpisah, kita akan terkenangkan pelbagai perbualan dan impian yang kita ada.

Hari berganti hari, bulan, tahun, hingga hubungan ini menjadi asing...

Satu hari anak-anak kita akan jumpa gambar kita dan bertanya, "Siapa mereka semua tu?"
Dan kita tersenyum dengan air mata yang tidak kelihatan kerana hati ini terusik dengan kata yang sayu, lalu berkata, "Dengan merekelah saya ada hari yang paling indah dalam hidup saya..."

Mother's undying love

After his father's death, the son decided to leave his mother at an old age home and visited her on and off.

Once he received a call from the old age home. "Your mom is in a very serious condition, please come and visit her."

So the son went and saw that his mom was very critical and on her dying bed.

He asked, "Mom what can I do for you?"

Mom replied, "Please install fans in the old age home, as there are none. Also put a fridge for betterment of food because many times I slept without food."

The son was surprised and asked, "Mom, while you were here you never complained, but now you have few hours left and you are telling me all this, why?"

Mom replied, "It's OK dear, I've managed with the heat, hunger and pain, but when your children send you here, I'm afraid you will not be able to manage!"

A Wise Man with a Great Attitude

A man of 92 years, short, very well-presented, who takes great care in his appearance, is moving into an old people's home today.

After waiting several hours in the retirement home lobby, he gently smiles as he is told that his room is ready.

His wife of 70 has recently died, and he is obliged to leave his home.

As he slowly walks to the elevator, using his cane, I describe his small room to him, including the sheet hung at the window which serves as a curtain.

"I like it very much," he says, with the enthusiasm.

"Sir, you haven't even seen the room yet, hang on a moment, we are almost there."

"That has nothing to do with it," he replies.

"It is already decided in my mind that I like my room. It is a decision I take every morning when I wake up.

Happiness is something I choose in advance. Whether or not I like the room does not depend on the furniture, or the decor - rather it depends on how I decide to see it.

I can choose. I can spend my day in bed enumerating all the difficulties that I have with the parts of my body that no longer work very well, or I can get up and give thanks to heaven for those parts that are still in working order.

Every day is a gift, and as long as I can open my eyes, I will focus on the new day, and all the happy memories that I have built up during my life.

Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw in later life what you have deposited along the way."

So, my advice to you is to deposit all the happiness you can in your bank account of memories.

Sometimes at the cost at her own health, hobbies and beauty.
So who is really doing whom a favour?
